About the role:



The Laboratory Analyst is responsible for performing analysis in various matrices in the organic department using LC-MS instrumentation. This position will also perform routine functions such as sample preparation and lab maintenance. During peak sample periods to cover extended hours of operation and week-end shifts.

  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and directions regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments;
  • Follow safety requirements as described in the company Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns and incidents to the Safety Representative;
  • Prepare and standardize reagents and solutions as required;
  • Prepare calibration and quality control standards, duplicate and spike samples;
  • Clean all glassware and other containers required for sample preparation and analysis;
  • Analyst samples on the LC/LC-MS instrumentation;
  • Evaluate data and troubleshoot problems with instruments, support equipment, and sample preparation processes;
  • Perform instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair as required;
  • Organize workload to meet Turn Around Times (TATs) and hold times;
  • Create work lists, workgroups, sample tables and other computer tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Order relevant chemicals and supplies in a timely manner for your work area.
  • Participate in audits, method development and special projects as required.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements without deviation, except where approved by Supervisor or Manager;
  • Adhere to strict QA/QC requirements;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Train and supervise junior staff in accordance with laboratory protocols;
  • Ensure all training records and training binders are current and applicable;
  • Assist in other areas of the lab as required and with other duties as assigned.



This position is to ensure that high quality data is produced in accordance with prescribed methods and standard operating procedures. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.



Specific Responsibilities:

Responsible for the entire analytical process, from sample preparation through data analysis using state-of-the-art analytical equipment such as LC/MS/MS.

The chemist will become familiar with the analytical equipment and software, including but not limited to Mass Hunter and Chemstation.

Follow appropriate methodologies as prescribed in the laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Analyze evaluate and approve the results of QC samples.

Document activities and report results in a concise accurate manner.

Identify and report quality problems to the supervisor or QA department.

Produce quality error free work.

Meet production requirements

Maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment.

Exercise laboratory safety practices.

Strong commitment to quality and integrity.

Must actively participate in the laboratory’s Quality System.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

B.S. in chemistry or a related field.

2+ years’ experience working in a laboratory environment preferred.

Computer skills, Microsoft programs.

LC-Mass Spec technology preferred.
